THE J’EDIT
Welcome To The Jiffy-Mart
This week, we held the Grand Opening of The Jiffy-Mart.
It was such a long time coming. After all the construction delays, absent contractors, and federal investigations, we finally found the keys and opened our doors.
In my latest podcast episode, which went out on Saturday, I take you on a tour of the new Jiffy-Mart — all 55,000 square feet, albeit still under construction at the time so apologies for the background noise.
I show you the location of the Bodega Cat Room, where to find the Hall of Mirrors for flattering selfies, the Beaded Curtain, and of course: The Members’ Lounge.
It’s also the kick-off of a new series for the podcast: The Grab Bag Episodes. I hope you take a listen and enjoy it. As always, feel free to loiter here at the shop. Stay forever!
Thank you for being here,
James

THE JIFFY AUDIO NEWSLETTER PODCAST
Diving Into The Grab Bag Of Goods
A lot of my focus on The James Cave Instagram Feed, podcast, and newsletter is around thematic series: This Old Vibe, We’re Cheesing, A Wine Year, and CSA: A Content Series On Agriculture.
But sometimes, I find an interesting story that doesn’t necessarily fit into one of those series. Sometimes, these stories are best left to stand on their own, in what’s known in the podcast industry as a Grab Bag episode.
That’s why, in my latest episode, we not only take a tour of the my new store, but we also take our first dive into the Grab Bag Of Goods, a bejeweled shopping bag full of interesting stories and adventures.
This first episode in the series asks the question: Does my new store need a land acknowledgment statement? And if so, how might I write a statement that actually means something to the Indigenous communities I’d acknowledge?
To learn more about this, I called up Heather Bruegl, a public historian, activist, and consultant who teaches decolonial education and works with organizations for Indigenous sovereignty.
As a citizen of the Oneida Nation of Wisconsin and a first line descendant of Stockbridge-Munsee, she gives us advice and things to consider if you’d like to embark on the project of writing a meaningful statement of your own.
I hope you’ll take a listen!
